"Rare Russian Mug In Vermeil Saint-petersburg 1860 Period Signed"
Rare and beautiful covered tankard in gilded silver (Vermeil) hallmarked by the Master Russian Goldsmith Carl Gustav Ekqvist. Master goldsmith Carl Gustav Ekqvist, born in Helsinki in 1800 and died in 1868, completed his apprenticeship in Saint Petersburg in 1819, then he was appointed Master-Assistant in 1823 to become Master Goldsmith in 1830. This mug dates from the 1850s- 1860. Rich embossed decoration with a motif of bunches of grapes and vine leaves. Superb handle in the shape of a vine branch with a particularly original hinge system. Different pieces by this master silversmith can be found in museums, including the historical one in Moscow.
