"Set Of Four Chinese Watercolors On Pith Paper, Chinese School, 19th Century"
Set of four Chinese watercolors on pith paper, Chinese School, 19th Century Each finely painted in vibrant colors with courtly scenes, the watercolor on pith paintings are often mistakenly referred to as rice paper paintings. But the pith is a spongy cell tissue in the stem of a small tree, Tetra Panax Papyifera, native to southwestern China. It is cut by hand with a small, delicate knife into thin sheets of small size. The size is limited by the nature of the material and the process requires a highly skilled hand.
With Frame: 34 x 23cm Watercolor: 31cm x 20.50cm There are stains on the paper, cracks or rots due to its age (please see the detailed photos)
