"Brenier Rousseau-[barge-quays Of The Seine-]- Surrealism-oil-1947"
PAINTING SOLD WITH CERTIFICATE FROM THE GALLERY LES PÉNICHES THE QUAYS OF THE SEINE PARIS BRENIER ROUSSEAU FAUVIST PAINTER OIL ON CANVAS AND CHASSIS 1955 52 cm x 62 cm 59 cm x 70cm French painter born in 1923, from the School of Paris. His paintings, watercolors and drawings are inspired by both Cubism and Fauvism. Some of his portraits are reminiscent of the faces painted by Pablo Picasso, such as "Les demoiselles d'Avignon - 1907"... Brenier Rousseau also shows "imaginary traits", such as Miro in his characters around 1923. He will remain in his paintings very inspired by the period of surrealism, by André Breton and Antonin Arthaud. But we are in the years 52/54, and Brenier Rousseau paints this happy and carefree time. He then rubbed shoulders with all of Paris who visited his exhibitions and bought his paintings. As evidenced by many photos found of him, such as Cocteau under the poster of the film "les enfants terribles". he gathered around him a real club of friends: artists, painters, sportsmen, writers, film and theater stars: Fernandel, Bourvil, Jean Marais, Gilbert Bécaud, Charles Trénet, Brassens, Michel Simon, Jean Claude Pascal. Henri Guisol, Pierre Louis, Roger Pierre, Jean Cocteau, Roger Nicolas, Piéral, Louison Bobet, Tino Rossi, Henri Crémieux… He frequented the most beautiful women of the time: Marlène Dietrich, Juliette Gréco, Mylène Demongeot. We can still see him with his friend Odette Joyeux, when he was awarded the Courteline Prize in 1954 for his book “La Marie est trop belle”. Brenier-Rousseau bears witness to this period which made him travel between Parisian life in Montmartre and the atmosphere of Nice. Montmartre is home to its "clodos", its beggars who scavenge, its priest, "the old man" and "the old woman" who stroll between the Place du Tertre and the great basilica. Circus people fascinate the painter. Through his oils, his drawings, his Indian inks, he still brings to life the clowns, trapeze artists, caravans and jugglers who practice in front of the Médrano circus in Paris. Medrano inspired many artists from Pigalle: Toulouse-Lautrec, Seurat, Auguste Renoir, Gen Paul, Derain, Kees van Dongen or Picasso and Edmond Heuzé who married the director's daughter, Nina Bacquet and Brenier Rousseau. The Medranos, who did not own the circus, were expelled from the premises in the early 1960s by the competition which had just bought out the walls. The last performance took place on January 7, 1963. At the end of 1963, the former Medrano circus reopened its doors under the name of “Montmartre circus”, directed by Joseph Bouglione. During his frequent stays in Megève, in the company of Michèle Morgan, he takes us on the snowy slopes of the resort. From Megève to Menton, there is only one step… He finds his friend Joséphine Baker. We are in August 1954. We see him at work in the port, boater on his head, painting a watercolor. He also leaves many views and landscapes of small villages on the Alps, the Pyrenees… ORIGINAL PHOTOS OF THE PAINTER BRENIER-ROUSSEAU In the company of MICHÈLE MORGAN FERNANDEL BOURVIL Then ALONE IN HIS WORKSHOP IN MONTMARTRE THE PHOTOS ARE NOT SOLD WITH THIS PAINTING
