"Leon Detroy : "street Corner In Venice""
Léon Detroy (1859-1955): “Coin de rue à Venise”, pencil 24 X 16 cm, mounted by an ocher marie-louise in a wooden frame 50 X 35 cm. Dated October 1st and signed in calligraphy in pen, located “Venice” in pencil. Clear foxing. The immense artist is best known as the most modern of the School of Crozant, who left us many Fauve landscapes of Creuze. Apart from specialists, few know that he made two stays in Venice at the end of the 19th century, working in an impressionist style close to that of Whistler who stayed there at the same time. He gives us here, seized on the spot, two women conversing under the gaze of a Venetian smoking his pipe. The pencil, more or less supported according to the desired effect, suggests as much as it describes. Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or telephone.
