"Brass Cauldron. Hallmark With Crowned R 1745-1749. 18th Century."
Cylindrical body slightly flared, with rolled edge, forged on a centering point and assembled by a crenellated copper solder. Wrought iron handle, dangling on brass ears folded and riveted on horseback. On the bottom, on the outside, a rare crowned R hallmark. Contrary to eccentric assertions about this punch, we persist in making the reasonable assumption that it is indeed a tax punch on objects of copper and its alloys, contemporary with the crowned C (1745-1749 ) and reserved for provincial productions. Our study covers more than 90 hallmarked objects observed, most of which, the typology, traceability, decoration, or function support this hypothesis. Height: 12.5cm. Diameter: 26cm. 18th century. Beautiful condition. Small and discreet tin closures. See additional information on: http://antiquites-lauginie.fr Free shipping by COLISSIMO for metropolitan France.
