"Gabriel Edouard Thurner (1840-1907) ''the Fish Market''"
Genre scènes, interiors, landscapes, still lives, flowers and fruits were among Thurner’s favorite themes. He was the student of Chabal Dussergey and started to exhibit in 1885 at the Salon de Paris, and then at the Salon des Artistes Français. Thurner was an Art teacher then at the Gobelins and gained some medals in 1884 and 1887, an honorable medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1889 and a bronze medal at the one of 1900. His legacies are interior rustic scene such as our painting, but also fruits and flowers paintings executed with talent.

His paintings are showing today in museums, such as the Beaux-Arts museums of The Luxembourg, Amiens, Clamecy, Épinal, Rouen, Göteborg, Strasbourg, Tourcoing and the Hauteville house of Victor Hugo in Guernesey.
