Cleopatra flag

Object description :

"Cleopatra"
Very beautiful painting from the 18th century, oil on canvas, representing Queen Cleopatra in a final gesture, holding an asp in her hand. The symbolism of the Queen's suicide by a snakebite is explained by the Queen's attachment to traditions, (the bite of the cobra of Amon-Rè is believed to confer immortality and divinity on its victim). The 18th century feeding on symbolism.
Empire period frame.
