"Table-edmond Geffroy-portrait Of His Brother-1838"
EDMOND GEFFROY Edmond Geffroy, born July 28, 1804 in Maignelay and died February 8, 1895 in Saint-Pierre-lès-Nemours, was a French actor and painter. He is the creator of the play Chatterton by Alfred de Vigny, before becoming dean of the members of the Comédie-Française. He died in Saint-Pierre-lès-Nemours on February 8, 1895. A retrospective exhibition of his works took place in Maignelay and Beauvais, and a catalog was published by the Departmental Museum of Oise in 1995. Edmond Geffroy married Eulalie Dupuis, daughter of Rose Dupuis, also a member of the Comédie-Française. We offer here a very beautiful portrait (oil painting, on stretcher) of his brother, made in 1838. This painting is in a period gilded wood frame (some imperfections on the frame motifs)
