André Beaucé is a French painter born on May 23, 1911 in Rennes and died in Paris on January 2, 1974. A student of the School of Fine Arts in Rennes, a graduate of the School of Decorative Arts where he was admitted in 1932, he was student at the workshops of André Lhote and Simon, with Yves Brayer. He won the Abd-el-Tif Prize in 1946. A discreet modernist painter, and "great talent" (cit. Pierre Parsus), he was recognized by the peers of the critics as the creator of a work of exceptional quality. He was appointed professor of drawing at the City of Paris. His painting is powerfully expressionist, free from any system. We notice in the 50s vigorous portraits, without complacency, intense, captured in an almost caricatural way. The tones, always very high, are strongly opposed to it in a vigorously cut composition. After the dark years of the war, the art of André Beaucé translates a violent vision of a certain reality that is always brutal and yet magnificent. He travels a lot in Brittany, in the region of Audierne in particular, and in Provence. The expression of his recognizable talent in the use of shadow and light make him an accomplished painter.
