Canson cut with a scalpel and pasted on foamboard. Unique, iconic and ironic piece; Michael Roberts, British fashion journalist and illustrator born in 1947, studied graphic design and design at Wycombe College of Art. Fashion editor/director, at The Sunday Times, Vanity Fair in New York, British Vogue, New Yorker magazines. He is now a fashion photographer for various Vogue affiliates around the world, GQ America and England, Sunday Times. He is also the author of illustration books (Fashion Victims...) - He is also a set photographer (film Victoria - with Emily Blunt -2009) Mr. Roberts received in 2022 the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire. In the 90s the artist produced many covers and illustrated articles for The New Yorker magazine - For this he used a particular graphic style: the borders of the elements of the composition had to be very clearly cut. It is difficult to achieve this effect in painting or drawing. He will therefore use canson paper which he cuts with a scalpel. This gives a particular sharpness to the contours. It was in Paris that he discovered this medium in the 1990s.- There are therefore slight reliefs in the work, each colored element having been cut out separately, from the smallest to the largest.
