"Small Louis XV Secretary Stamped Louis Noël Malle"
Rare little secretary inlaid with rosewood and kingwood in sinuous frames, it opens with a flap and a drawer in the upper part, two doors in the lower part. The flap lined with leather revealing compartments and four small drawers, one of which has the inkwell and the period pen holder, the original chiseled and gilded bronze keyholes. It is topped with a Saint Maximin breccia marble top molded with a corbin beak. Stamped LN MALLE and three times JME on the right rear upright. Parisian work from the Louis XV period. Very good condition, customary restorations carried out by an experienced cabinetmaker, French polish. Louis Noël MALLE (1734 – February 27, 1782) received master on November 18, 1765, renowned cabinetmaker based in rue du faubourg Saint Antoine where he had a large workshop and a store. He made furniture adorned with decorative marquetry of ebony, olive, colored wood, tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl, and more traditional ones using leaf veneers like our secretary. After his death, his widow will maintain her workshop in activity until the revolution.
