Dimensions of the drawing: 42 x 32 cm. Sign. Norbert Benoit (Brussels, 1912- Braine-Le-Comte, 1997).
Son of a horsewoman, he spent his early childhood in the magic of the circus and behind the scenes of the Music Hall.
Very early on, he revealed a talented and original personality.
He began his artistic career in 1936, making short animated films. Versatile artist, Norbert will be in turn: pianist, renowned mime, unusual filmmaker, author, painter, draftsman flirting between expressionism and surrealism, he was called the "naive black".
He had always painted, but it was only in the sixties that he experienced belated recognition when his work was exhibited at the Chavance gallery in New York. Exhibits at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Charleroi, at the "Maison des Architectes" and at the Galerie "Vendôme" in Brussels.
Tribute exhibition at the Spontaneous Art Museum of Spa in 1998.
