"Fontaine Marbre Région De Beaune ( France)"
Ceremonial fountain with its water tank coming from the waiting room of a certainly very rich and influential presbytery. The priest provided his flock with a supply of fresh water (which could also be supplied by a spring). On ceremonial days you could replace the water with good Burgundy wine! At the time (18th or even 17th century), the presbytery served as a place of arbitration on many occasions, what better than such an object to establish the authority and prestige of the conciliator? The large monolithic tank measures H38 cm W44 D28 in orange-brown marble, it was carved in the mass and we can see inside the many traces of stone chisel blows. On the outside some restorations and fillings of surface not very visible. This reservoir is covered by a brown marble cap. The tank is placed on a small column in red, white and brown marble H 27.5 L 16.5 D 16.5. Below a white marble slab veined with gray L55 D35 (lower part of the niche can be lower than the other elements). The previous owner had equipped this fountain head with a water supply hidden behind the tank in order to have a water fountain that is triggered with a pedal on the ground (plumbing not supplied). The absolutely magnificent basin is in Carrara white statuary marble, it could be Renaissance with its oval shape and its grooved perimeter sculpture H 10, L54 D33 (+ 7 under the marble slab).
The column is in red, gray and brown marble (but it is not the same color as the tank which is browner) H72 L 21 P 29 (part of which may or may not be integrated into the back wall). We only sell the polychrome marble elements, not the background decorations and the wall alcove to stage the object as it was at the time and sealed to the wall. The marble set once stacked measures a height of approximately 150.8 cm (with a margin to be counted according to the thickness of the joints...) Note, the Auspices de Beaunes museum has this type of very rare and spectacular object in its permanent collections. Object available on pallet in the Paris region. Delivery and removal to be borne by the buyer.
