Louis Emile Adan is a French painter and draftsman born in Paris in 1839 and died in Paris in 1937. Pupil of Picot and Cabanel at the Beaux-Arts, he exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1863 to 1937 (gold medal in 1888). Installed at 75 rue de Courcelles in Paris, he painted genre scenes, landscapes, still lifes. He illustrated A Simple Heart by Gustave Flaubert, the Fables by La Fontaine and Florian, and the Complete Works by Alphonse Daudet.
