Jean Baptiste GERMAIN (1841-1910) The Blacksmith of Peace Bronze statue with bronze patina. Signed on the embankment. High. 39 cm Jean-Baptiste Germain was born on December 28, 1841 in Fismes, France. His brother Gustave Germain (1843-1909) was also a sculptor. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1866 and 1909. He won numerous prizes for his works, including third prize in 1883 and an honorable mention at the Universal Exhibition in 1900. He became a member of the Society of French Artists in 1889. His work is particularly marked by very realistic representations of characters in action or allegories.
