François Ozenda is a French painter, born in Marseilles in 1923. He spent his childhood there, in a modest family.
He then practiced various trades, generally living from the barter of his art and the support of his friends. All his life he led a wandering existence, day to day, chance encounters.
He claimed to have learned painting in three months by attending the Marseille art school. A mystical painter and poet, he painted in a surrealist style imbued with esotericism and spirituality.
From 1950, he lived in Vence where he had several exhibitions.
In 1973, he moved to Salermes, and died of a heart attack in 1976.
After his death, retrospectives are devoted to him, in Paris, Lyon, Marseille and Trans-en-Provence.
