Superb miniature on ivory of great finesse of execution: presumed portrait of Charlotte Corday (1768-1793) by Pierre Noel VIOLET (1749-1819), revolutionary period. This artist was a miniaturist to King Louis XVI. He emigrated to England in 1794. Miniatures by his hand can be found in Paris at the Louvre, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore, the Albertina in Vienna and in the royal collections.
