In the dominant central medallion, the imperious busts are superbly represented in polychromy, surrounded by a sophisticated gold garland on a white background, with matte and shiny gold work on the rim on a midnight blue background, nets, a frieze of bay leaves, and staggered sowing of imperial bees.
Proudly represented, Napoleon III is encamped in full dress in the posture of a conqueror, a worthy heir to the Empire of his late uncle. The portrait is displayed against a neutral background, where the colors of the uniform as well as the pigments of the skin allow the figure of the emperor to stand out. The wife of Napoleon III, the beautiful Eugénie is represented through a portrait borrowed from delicacy with a touch of sensuality: adorned with white flowers, bare shoulders, and dress in volume.
Marked on the back S.74 (for 1874) on Napoleon III, and S.75 (for 1875) on Eugénie, and on both the mark of the decorator painter CL for LUCAS Charles-Célestin active from 1864 to 1910.
