Oil on canvas by Jules-René Hervé, signed lower left and countersigned on the back, depicting children playing with pigeons in front of the Arc de Triomphe in a carved gilded wooden frame. Dimensions of the canvas 27.5x22.5 cm Total dimensions, with frame, 39.5x34 cm Jules-René Hervé was born in 1887 in Langres, in the east of France where he began his artistic studies in evening classes then he moved to Paris in 1908 to study at the School of Decorative Arts. He had his first exhibition in 1910 at the Salon des Artistes Français. He was a pupil of Fernand Cormon. After obtaining his teaching diploma, he began to teach. From 1911 to 1943, he taught painting to many generations of young artists. In 1914, he received a first silver medal from the Association of French Artists. In 1925 he was awarded a gold medal at the Salon of French Artists, and a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1937. His paintings are exhibited in many museums around the world, including: Museum of Fine Arts of Annecy, Art Institute of Chicago, Dahesh Museum of Art in New York, Museum of Art and History of Langres, Museum of Fine Arts of Tourcoing, Museum of Fine Arts of Saint-Étienne, etc... He was vice-president of the Salon of French Artists and member of the Jury of the Society of French Artists. Jules René Hervé is a French impressionist painter of our time. He is best known for his paintings depicting scenes of Parisian life bathed in light.
