Portrait of a British Officer, traditionally identified as Leiutentant-General Sir John Moore (1761-1809), School of Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830) Large early 19th century Napoleonic Wars era portrait of an officer British Army senior, oil on canvas. Excellent quality and condition circa 1805 portrait of the officer wearing his red tunic and a cape displaying a gold medal and the KCB. Framed. A light cleansing of the face is required. Presented in a period gilt frame. The works were purchased by the previous owners in the 1970s through a London dealer as traditionally identified as Sir John Moore, who died in the Battle of La Coruna after being mortally wounded by a cannon in 1809.
