France, Napoleon III
Imperial Manufacture of Sèvres
Painted porcelain
H.: 23.5; L.: 11.5 cm
Tea-lighter in white porcelain painted and gilded with the figure of the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. It is animated by three painted cartridges, two of which represent Napoleon and his troops.
The base is signed in red by the Manufacture Impériale de Sèvres. In the 19th century, the night light-tea maker was an everyday object.
Double name for double use, this tableware was used at night allowing both to maintain the desired drink at a good temperature – whether it is herbal tea, tea or milk; while bringing light to the occupied room.
