"The Sporty Signed G.bastin "
Beautiful sports bronze from the early 20th century. The piece is interesting, we find the champion's laurels at the man's feet. Circa 1925. Ernest Bastin (1870-1926) was passionate about sculpture; after training at the Academy of Schaerbeek and that of Brussels, where he was notably a pupil of Léon Mignon, he devoted himself fully to his art, creating busts, as well as bulls and plough horses in the image of his Liège professor. Asked for commissions for outdoor monuments such as the bronze of Gembloux, he also created small terracotta or bronze models representing animals or people linked to industrial or agricultural activity, as well as sporting activities. Professor at the Industrial School of Anderlecht, Brussels native Daniel Francken, for his part, was also the official architect of the province of Brabant. Although he designed plans for various houses in Brussels, mainly in a neo-Renaissance style, he was mainly assigned to public construction sites in his province (public baths, churches, etc.), as well as in Namur.
