Ibo Statues From Nigeria

Large and very rare IBO sculpture from NIGERIA representing a couple of ancestors entwined by the waist surmounting an openwork pillar all carved in a single block total height 155cm Remains of polychromy I found this type of sculpture only in the IBO book- ARTS from the collection of the Museum of Cultural History at the University of California, Los Angeles, page 109 and 110 (photocopies will be given to the purchaser) This is reminiscent of the IBO altar sculptures which received the mirrors Semi-heavy wood (light missing at the level of the male sex) otherwise good condition the characters with large headdresses have tribal scarifications on their faces and in their necks Spectacular by the size and the good condition I have not found an explanation of the use of this totem therefore, to say
