Jean-Eugène Clary, pupil of César de Cock, exhibited for the first time at the Salon of 1878, then at the Salons of the National Society of Fine Arts and at the Salon of French Artists. He obtained a bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900 in Paris.
He painted many landscapes on the banks of the Seine and Normandy. His favorite theme, trees mirrored in the water of rivers, earned him considerable success.
Several of his paintings are kept at the Museum of Art and History in Lisieux and at the Nicolas Poussin Museum in Les Andelys, where he ended his life.
