"Oil On Canvas, Orpheus Charming The Animals."
Mythological subject whose treatment is closer to the Symbolist school of the end of the 19th century. The influence of Gustave Moreau is noticeable there. However, an inscription on the reverse makes its author Jean Galey a pupil of JR Laurens. The canvas on the reverse bears traces of restorations and a glossy varnish on the front requires appropriate lighting to capture the interplay of transparencies. The canvas is unframed.
