The interior was professionally relined with ribbons in the lid a few years ago and is in near perfect condition with no smell.
There is a brass plate on the top of the chest with the sign "MOYNAT". (look at the photo)
The trunk is dated around 1900.
The edges of the trunk are protected by leather fittings and solid brass corners and angles. The leather straps and handles are original. The trunk has two leather handles on the sides and one on the front. The surrounding strips of wood protected the trunk from damage and also have a wonderful color and patina. The bottom is protected by zinc to prevent humidity from damaging the contents of the trunk and there are four wheels.
The trunk is overall in very good condition for its age, with traces of use on the exterior leather, which gives it a superb patina.

Moynat is a French luxury fashion company. Their first workshop was opened in Paris in 1849 founded by the trunk makers Octavie and François Coulembier. They team up with a specialist in travel items named Pauline Moynat, to open the first boutique on Avenue de l'Opéra. Moynat was one of the leading leather goods houses of its time. Known for its traditional know-how and its skills in the artisanal manufacture of bespoke luggage and travel items, the house has become known for its creations for the automobile, as well as for its technical innovations such as the lightening and waterproofing of its trunks, and for its participation in the various universal exhibitions.
