"Gabriel Largeteau : "hunter And His Dog""
Gabriel Largeteau (1911-1969): "The hunter and his dog", oil on canvas 100 X 65 cm, mounted in an American box surmounted by a black and gold reverse slope frame 117 X 89 cm. "In its own juice", it has many small gaps which do not really interfere with the reading of the table, but would deserve to be restored. How could it have been forgotten from dictionaries and other sites? He was from the Toulouse region and was a pupil of Devambez at the Beaux-Arts in Paris where, as a logist, he obtained the second Grand Prix de Rome (the bronze medal, what!...) for his painting subject imposed "The rest" where we see women bringing the midday meal to harvesters in a modern realistic style. However, his style quickly evolved towards more "avant-garde" representations like our canvas which must date from the 1950s and where our modern Nimrod, who does not seem scary, forms with his dog a pyramidal composition underlined by the rifle .
