A PRIMORDIAL INSPIRATION: HIS FATHER MAX His father, Max Wulfart, was born on January 1, 1876 in Frauenburg, Russia. He began a career as a painter under Imperial Russia, after training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Odessa. He decided to come and settle in Paris in 1903, in order to live as close as possible to the heart of artistic creation as it was then bubbling in the Paris of the Belle Epoque. Her second son Marius was born in 1905, two years after the couple of Max and Eugénie Wulfart settled in France. As is often the case in families whose Cyrillic names were incorrectly transcribed when they were registered in France, Max Wulfart declares his son under the true sounding of his surname, and Marius therefore bears the correct family name. : Wulfart and not Wulfart. In 1927, Marius Woulfart is naturalized French with all his family. Max Wulfart starts from scratch in France and follows the courses of the National School of Fine Arts in Paris and exhibits regularly at the Salons.
