Object description :

"Endre Szasz For Hollohaza Hungary, Large Gilt Porcelain Vase, 1970s"
Large baluster vase in porcelain and decoration by the Hungarian painter Endre Szasz executed by the porcelain factory Hollohaza Hungary. Very qualitative surreal decor in the spirit of Piero Fornasetti or Wiinblad for the Rosenthal porcelain factory, quality equal to the Sèvre porcelain factory in Paris or Royal Copenhagen in Denmark. In perfect condition. Biography: Endre László Szász ("Vallon") (1926 - 2003) was a Hungarian painter, illustrator, graphic designer, engraver, muralist, designer and decorator (porcelain painter). He drew from his childhood and used oil, acrylic, tempera, pencil, ink, charcoal, monotype, drypoint, lithography, etching and aquatint, and painted on several materials, such as posters and porcelain. He also produced several book illustrations. Endre studied at the University of Fine Arts in Budapest. Between the end of the 1940s and the end of the 1960s, Szász worked as an illustrator and illustrated a few hundred books. In 1959 he won an illustrator prize at the Leipzig Fair. In 1964, he presented his work on the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam in Great Britain. He has had several exhibitions around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art (Mexico City), the Auschwitz Museum (Poland), the Hungarian National Gallery (Budapest), and has also exhibited in Madrid, Copenhagen, Brussels, Berlin, Rome, Oslo, Johannesburg, New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Budapest, Amman (Jordan) and Tokyo. An original by Szász also hangs in La Sebastiana, one of the homes of famous Chilean poet and diplomat Pablo Neruda. He was one of the greatest painters in the history of Art, Szász lived in Toronto, Canada, from 1970 to 1974, then in Los Angeles, California, until 1982, when he was returned to Hungary. Just like Salvatore, Szász owned a pet ocelot.
