"Violin Table In Precious Wood, Napoleon III Period - Mid-19th Century"
Fiddle-shaped ceremonial table with precious wood marquetry combining rosewood, cedar burl and lemon tree. This exceptional piece of furniture has a top inlaid with cedar burl and lemon tree forming arabesques and refined volutes. Around it, a wide band of rosewood is highlighted by a chiseled bronze strip that follows the curves of the furniture. The curved belt, following the lines of the top, opens on the front with a large drawer decorated with cedar and lemon burl, on a rosewood background. This drawer is surrounded by a bronze rod and has in its center an important sculpture, also in bronze, representing the face of a child accompanied by flowers and scrolls, on a rosewood background. The sides of this table are a reminder of the facade with a bronze sculpture in the center and precious wood marquetry. The set rests on four curved legs adorned with large, soft-faced espagnolette, at the top. The legs have two sides in rosewood on the inside and two sides in cedar burl with lemon marquetry on a rosewood background. In continuity with each espagnolette, a beaded bronze rod joins sculpted clog feet. Having benefited from a state-of-the-art restoration, this Napoleon III table is a unique piece of furniture that will attract attention with its rich ornamentation and the perfect harmony of these precious woods.
