"Oil On Canvas, Shepherd And His Herd, 19th Century."
Pastoral scene: shepherd and his flock. The craftsmanship of this unsigned canvas evokes the work of Giuseppe Palizzi (1812-1888). Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Naples, he moved to France in 1844 and became friends with Millet, Diaz de la Pena and Théodore Rousseau. He and his brother Filippo were nicknamed "the painters of donkeys and goats" as they excelled in the realistic rendering of animals. Beautiful modern style frame.
