Beautiful Chinese Work of Ivory Sculpture, Province of Canton in China, XIXth Century
We offer you this beautiful box in very finely carved ivory; the scenes animated by characters are extremely meticulous and rich in detail.
This casket rests on four legs depicting mascarons linked together by a falling gallery with open-work cutwork of flowers and foliage scrolls.
Each of its faces is decorated with one or two intimate scenes sculpted in reserves with polylobed contours.
The lid is decorated with an even more elaborate scene which presents an oval cartouche (remained blank until today it could still be encrypted), its perimeter is framed by a generous band with sumptuous motifs of foliage scrolls alternated with flowers.
The object can be considered in very good condition, it nevertheless has a crack on a stick of the molding of the lid and a small lack of material at the socket, only visible when the box is open and obviously which could be restored (see the last photos on this subject, these imperfections are precisely shown there).
Although pretty on my photos, I can tell you that the object is even more beautiful in reality, it is really a superb old object.

Additional information : Ivory specimen of Elephantidae spp (I/A) pre-convention, prior to June 1st 1947 in accordance with the EC 338/97 of 09/12/1996 art.2-Wmc. For an exit from the EU, a CITES re-export document will be necessary, this one being at the charge of the future buyer. The delivery of such a document is not automatic. The future buyer will have to inquire about the conditions of re-export because some countries do not allow the introduction of ivory specimens of Elephantidae on their territory.
