Object description :

"Important Lectern In Solid Oak, Louis XIII Style - Late Nineteenth"
Large Louis XIII style solid oak conference desk. This atypical piece of furniture has a sloping side fitted with a large overflowing molded strip, acting as a retainer, in order to place and stabilize the books or documents necessary for the speaker. The center of this inclined side has an imposing square opening revealing a large functional storage space 100 cm wide. Surrounding the top of this furniture, the ends are scalloped in the Gothic Revival style. This large desk has a wide belt abundantly carved with floral decorations. Swirls and foliage of acanthus leaves, on a granite background, are formed in very pronounced relief. The set rests on four twisted legs with a level also scalloped in the lower part resting on molded crosspieces, sculpted only at the front and at the back. This important Louis XIII desk is a rare piece of furniture due to its ornamentation and its large size.
