Sketch Of Stains, Stained Glass

Extremely rare sketch of "stains" -intended to choose the tones of the glasses- intended for the "Casa Centrale church of Guatemala". Watercolor and heightened gouache on tracing paper. Below: the coronation of the Virgin. Above: the Annunciation. Many inscriptions, one of which indicates that it is a question of the resumption with variants (common practice) of the models intended for Notre Dame de Lambader in Plouvorn in 1933. Another inscription refers to the "cardboard" N ° 1138 dated 1949 intended at runtime. This could be kept in the archives of Grenoble which preserve the essential of the collection of the Balmet workshop. The painter and decorator Georges Louis Claude (1879-1963) appears at Bénézit. In addition to Louis Balmet, he collaborated with the master glassmakers Jacques Grüber (Nancy then Paris) and Francis Chigot (Limoges). Before that he was, in an oriental style, the decorator of the Heliopolis Palace Hotel (current Egyptian presidential palace) built by Baron Edouard Empain (1852-1929) and inaugurated in 1910 and that of the Japanese tower (inaugurated in 1905) and the Chinese restaurant on the edge of the Laeken estate, now the Museums of the Far East.
