The Defense of Mazagran is a painting painted by Philippoteaux in 1841, exhibited today at the Palace of Versailles. Oil on canvas measuring 2.56 x 3.95 meters, it depicts a scene from the Battle of Mazagran in 1840. It was commissioned by King Louis-Philippe, aimed at justifying the conquest of Algeria by the France and intended for the Museum of the History of France which he has just created at the Palace of Versailles.
