"Julius Rolshoven Pastel"
Julius Rolshoven (1858-1930) American painter born in Detroit studied in New York, then in Munich and finally in Florence and Venice with Franck Duveneck. He then shared his life between Detroit and Santa Fe and Italy. This pastel signed, dated 1905 and located in Assisi is a copy after a fresco from the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi by the Maestro di San Francesco representing a lamentation over the dead Christ. Proof of the importance of European roots for American artists of this generation. It is framed in an early 20th century oak frame and measures unframed 63x48cm
