He settled in Cluny, in Saône-et-Loire in 1942. At the end of the war, he taught turning and pottery at the Faïenceries de Longchamps apprenticeship center in Côte-d'Or. He will be the teacher of the four founders of the Accolay workshops. In 1949, he returned to Vallauris to take over the management of Louis Giraud's studio. Alexandre Kostanda founded his own workshop in 1953. He brought sandstone clay from Cluny, which withstands higher firing temperatures, and mixed it with Vallauris soil. He was one of the ceramists who organized the Vallauris International Ceramics Biennial in 1968. His production, sensual and plastic at its beginnings, evolves towards a more refined ceramic, with floral or abstract motifs. In Vallauris, despite the shimmering colors of local ceramics, Alexandre Kostanda retains a predilection for muted colours, close to the natural shades of clay. Its ceramic, with a rustic appearance, surprises with the delicacy of its craftsmanship and the balance of its proportions, revealing the exceptional technical mastery of Kostanda.
