"A Louis XVI Armchairs Stamped By Pierre Brizard 18th Century."
Pair of Greek-style armchairs with basket handles in carved beech wood, molded and relacquered in grey wiped Louis XVI period stamped by Pierre Brizard. The backrest is curved, crowned by a rounded crosspiece known as a basket handle unifying the two diverging linear uprights where the armrests are fitted. These provided with cuffs come to pose their noses in cavet with scrolls on the top of the arch of the armrests; themselves resting on grooved stops overhanging cubic connection dices carved of rosettes in the plumb of the front foot. The base is made of four feet. All are tapered with deep flutes, strangled in their pinched tops at their bases. The shaft of the woodwork is harmoniously traversed on all its faces of a frieze of quadrilobes increasing and decreasing originating in median part of the belt. The whole of an extreme finesse shows all the mastery of the work of sculpture probably executed by the master himself. Balance, nervousness, elegance and quality are the most appropriate terms for this beautiful and very fine pair of seats. It is worth noting the great care given to the linking elements of impeccable quality. The stamp : P Brizard for Pierre Brizard is stamped under each of the front crosspieces of the two chairs.
It is to be noted that the way of the most excavated in strong relief of which are treated the sculptures combined with the repair of the back of the file tend to show that these seats were devoted to be formerly gilded.

Pierre Brizard carpenter master in Paris on July 22, 1772. His production is rare but always very elegant, mostly in the Louis XVI style.
