"Snuff Box Corozo Carved Birds Shield Love Marine Work Nineteenth Century"
Snuff box in finely carved corozo*, decorated with two small birds framing a crest, surrounded by foliage and flower motifs on the lid; on the other side, a little Cupid holding a bird in his hands, work of a sailor or convict, from the 19th century. This snuffbox is in good condition. A note: small accident and lack on the cover (see red arrows), time stains on the back, scratches and wear of time, see photos. ____________________________ *Coconut, like corozo, was worked by sailors or convicts. The latter worked it to pass the time but also and above all to make a little money in order to improve their daily lives. Can also be attributed to sailors on their long voyages.
