"Triptych Painted By Albin Normand Amiens Collection Charles Hidé Bruyères Laon Aisne Picardie "
Gothic style triptych from the 1880s by Albin Normand d'Amiens (Albinus Normanus) representing the Virgin in the center under a canopy held by angels and on a platform surrounded by numerous figures; bishops and lords on the doors, miniatures in oil.
This work was exhibited under the number 101 (a piece of label 101 remains at the bottom right) in 1886 in Amiens at the archaeological exhibition in the galleries of the Picardy museum for the fiftieth anniversary of the society of antique dealers of Picardy from the 1st June to July 4. (see last photos) Albin Normand exhibited regularly in Amiens from 1853, notably at the exhibition of the society of friends of the arts of the department of the sum and in 1860 in the halls of the town hall of Amiens at the artistic and archaeological exhibition organized by the Société des Antiquaires de Picardie where we learn that he resides at 24 rue de Castille in Amiens and that he excels above all in the reproduction in gouache of bas reliefs and miniatures of the Middle -age .
this triptych bears an exhibition label on the back on which it is mentioned that it is in the Hidé de Bruyères-sous-Laon collection.
This collector is Charles Hidé (1825-1894), man of letters and politician, secretary of the academic society of Laon and member of the commission of the museum of Laon, he had a collection of works of art, paintings but also earthenware , coins, furniture, he was even at the origin of the discovery between Vorges and Bruyères at a place called "the Mathias cross" of a Merovingian cemetery.
He edited a notice on the feasts of the innocent and the mad in Laon, a popular Laonnoise march in military music by Frederic Porsh in 1888 and the African, an opera by Meyerber in 1886.
A great collector, his house was filled from top to bottom with objects from the castles of La Bove and Parfandru in particular.
Mr Charles Hide was among the greatest collectors in the Laon region after Mr Amédée Piette, Mr l'Abbé Poquet, Mr Gomart, Mr Perin and Mr Souliac-Boileau. He participated in the loan and exhibition of works of art in his region for which he was rewarded with a silver medal from the society of antique dealers in 1860 in Amiens for several old paintings, ivories, pieces of religious goldsmithery, enamels, furniture, weapons and ironwork objects.
He received a silver medal from the archaeological committee of Noyon for his interesting work on the history of the town of Bruyères Laon.
Our object presented here must have been purchased around 1880 from Albin Normand, Charles Hidé must have fallen in admiration in front of the search for detail and the quality of execution, both pictorial and sculptural.
