"Bronze “cupid”, After Ls. Boizot – Late 19th Century"
Charming bronze with brown patina, after Louis-Simon BOIZOT (1743 - 1809), French neo-classical sculptor, who was at the head of the workshops of the Sèvres factory. The work, signed on the bronze terrace, represents Cupid, God of Love in Roman mythology. The deity is represented as a young man with youthful features and curly hair, a pair of wings reminiscent of the figure of the angel on his back. He carries his quiver filled with arrows and his bow, instruments supposed to illustrate the points of desire that he plants in the hearts of men. This proof rests on a base in sea green marble, embellished with a gadrooned bronze collar, and a cartouche bearing the mention "HOUDEBINE BRONZIER, Paris", foundry active from 1845 to 1910. Poetic and airy, this magnificent bronze of Love will awaken your sensitivity, while marking your decoration by the accuracy of its realization.
