The industrial revolution in Great Britain in the 19th century profoundly changed society. . In reaction to industrialization considered to be dehumanizing, to mass production of furniture, to the abandonment of artisanal techniques, William Morris and John Ruskin founded the “Arts en Craft” movement which would inspire the Ecole de Nancy a few years later. in France and paved the way for Art Deco in the 20th century. These craftsmen, most often architects by training like William Morris, manufacture individually elegantly simple furniture, most often geometric shapes in beautiful materials that fit into an interior decor designed as a whole.
