Virgin Porcelain Icon, Hand Painted Plate In Gold Inlay, Limoges Circa 1930

Exceptional Limoges porcelain plate painted by hand and inlaid with gold representing an Orthodox icon, The Virgin and Child. The rendering is close to perfection, the artist has used all the complexities of creation on porcelain with enamelling, inlay of fine gold polished with agate in two different ways, fine granular for the background and geometric for the halo of the Virgin. The rendering is perfect, even with the reproduction of the original icon which served as a model, it had to be altered and the porcelain decorator managed to reproduce the appearance of wood with the paint chips. The result is stunning!! On the Virgin's right shoulder a glass bead. Work signed a. D. in the decoration and plaque signed PL for La Porcelaine Limousine, a factory active in Limoges until 1938. Period around 1930. This is a very certainly unique piece, of very high quality of execution and very decorative. Sold bare, unframed.
