Rare original drawing by Charles Porphyre Alexandre Desains (Lille May 28, 1789 - Paris December 14, 1862), is a French painter and man of letters. A native of Lille, Charles Desains is however from a family of Saint-Quentin. He did not follow the example of his industrial father, but settled in Paris where he was a pupil of Jacques-Louis David and a friend of other artists such as Horace Vernet, Paul Delaroche and James Pradier. Member of the Free Society of Fine Arts in Paris, he was its president in 1835 and 1855. In the field of literature, he stood out for a collection of fables, illustrated by his friends. Professor at the Normal School, he was still teaching there the year of his death in 1862. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1819 to 1827.
