"John Henry Dell (1830-1888), Oil On Panel, English School."
John Henry Dell (1830-1888), English landscape painter. He exhibited regularly at the British Institution and the Royal Academy. For his landscapes and genre scenes he favors small formats and paints with meticulous detail. If the theme of our painting - young woman in the undergrowth - evokes the School of Barbizon and Diaz de la Pena in particular, the craftsmanship is quite different. Here the play of glazes reigns supreme and gives this work a very particular transparency and meticulousness of execution.
