"Exceptional Secretaire In Burl Mahogany Veneer Restoration Period - Early 19th Century"
Very beautiful Secretaire in Burl Mahogany Veneer with Blue Turquin Marble top cut in Triple Baguettes. It has a high drawer, offering a storage depth of 8.5 cm. Below, it consists of a flap revealing a space – mainly made of Lemon tree – equipped with two shelves and eight small drawers of different capacities. Two of them are Secret, the others open with small brass pull buttons finely carved in Flowers. All are embellished with amaranth fillets forming frames. Detail rare enough to be underlined, the interior of these drawers is in Mahogany. The flap is covered with green leather, decorated with a central Vignette, Fleurons d'Angles and, on the edge, Friezes, sometimes Golden, sometimes on a hard background. In the lower part, this Secretary has two doors, with Walnut closure thus avoiding any deformation. They house three other drawers, but in the English style. Finally, a last drawer 9 cm deep concealed in the low Plinth will constitute the last element of this Secretaire. With the exception of the latter, the other three front openings are equipped with a three-point lock for the flap, high and low for the right door. They are in working order and equipped with their respective key. We will also appreciate the doucine moldings framing the central part of the piece of furniture, as well as the discreet but omnipresent fillets of lemon tree, visible on the edges of the shelves, the visible face of the feet, the sides... The absence of a compass also makes this Secretary Singular since it is a system with lead weights, complex for the time, which allows an autonomous closing of the flap as soon as its tipping point is reached. The quality of the materials used for the design of this Secretaire, the meticulousness and the technicality from which it has benefited, make it clearly Remarkable.
