Object description :

"Berber Djellaba In Wool And Silk Embroidered Cochineal Red - North Africa Late Nineteenth Century"
Circa 1880- 1900 South Tunisia Rare Djellaba or Berber Djebba that I bought in Matmata at the gates of the desert and dating from the end of the 19th century. Sheep wool background woven on a handloom and dyed from cochineal red to brick color with color variations. Traditional floche silk embroidery adorning the open collar, the shoulders and the opening of the sleeves with matching pompoms. Small bias in pink wool cheesecloth on the rubbing parts. Plastron with very beautiful Arab-Andalusian graphics. 19th century North African coins are very uncommon. Pierre Loti spirit guaranteed! No flaw. Very good condition of color and conservation. Dimensions: Large single size type 52/54 man France. 140 cm of amplitude from sleeve to sleeve. Lower coat tower 250 cm.
