Pupil of the animal sculptor Paul Comoléra (1813 - 1890), Jules Moigniez made his debut at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1855 then at the Salon four years later in 1859. He also obtained an honorable mention there. His bronzes are appreciated by the bourgeoisie for his subjects linked to hunting: dogs and birds are represented with great attention and allow him to live from his art. A serious illness plunges him into such disarray that he ends his life in 1894.
