Jacques Bernus (1650-1728) was a sculptor notably of busts, angels, tombs and ecclesiastical furniture for churches in the Provençal region.
His works were mostly in wood and were essentially religious in nature.
He developed an elegant and delicate style in his modeling of the forms and draperies that surround the figures in living attitudes.
He is inspired by the works of Bernini even if he refuses to work in Rome, his training will take place in Toulon (with great masters), a very culturally rich city at that time.
He received prestigious commissions and officiated around Carpentras and the Comtat Venaissin.
Good state of conservation despite some losses to the fingers, toes and some cracks.
The faces of the angels are very expressive and their movements very natural.
