"A Pair Of Openwork Silver Scissors Datable Around 1600/1620"
A pair of openwork silver scissors with engraved steel blade.

The scissors are decorated with imaginary birds and engraved symbols around the edge. Traces of gilding on the steel blades.

Silver case with a slide-opening shape (lid attached to a chain ending in a ring). The back is entirely engraved with a scene representing a seated naked woman holding a dog on a leash on a floral background. Underneath is engraved a winged angel's head ending in a floral scroll.

The front is also engraved with a floral scroll. Each side is engraved with a stylised feather design.

Note that the needle and the punch are missing.

Dimensions: scissors length of 7 cm / case length of 8.5 cm.

France circa 1600/1620.
